We are seeding this year's session with several discussion themes, which will
morph and dovetail with many others that we will create with our open forum format.

RETHINKING THE GOOD LIFE
|
What if we reinvented how we consumed and produced things in a way that enriches all aspects of our livesour ecologies, economies, and social life? What would this future reality look like? What would it take to make this happen? These are critical questions we must answer.
One Earths Vanessa Timmer and Nicole-Anne Boyer will be attending Media that Matters this year to spark a provocative conference thread on how we can engage media to co-create and communicate this new story.
The One Earth Initiative is a nonprofit research and advocacy group in Vancouver Canada, which includes global footprint pioneer Bill Rees. This Spring, they will be launching a five-year future visioning initiative called Rethinking the Good Life. Their goal is to accelerate a new dialogue and discourse that leads to new alternatives, awareness and action around sustainable production and consumption in North America.
Key outputs will include: future maps, scenarios and simulations; an actor map of who is doing what, where and why; new cognitive frames and language for enhancing public discourse; and cross-sector change labs focused on innovating high-impact new models, mindsets and metrics. This initative will also be linked to the ongoing UN Marrakech Process and other key international and national policy processes.

NEW ACTS OF ACTIVISM
|
| Is progressive media really progressing? Are there better ways to empower audiences to embrace the difficult solutions we face? Can art and media take us to new territories of acceptance, possibility, and action? Among those wrestling with these questions are Chris Jordan and Joe Chisolm. Joe will be offerening his reflections and perspective from his involvement with The Cove, and Chris will be talking about his process as the Midway project evolves into a mutlimedia campaign with the collaboration of Freerange Studios. |

THE "S" WORD
|
| At the tap root of our patterns of consumption and conquest is a spiritual crisis, one that traditional religious institutions have yet to quell. Can media break through the layers of cynicism and fear that surrounds other spiritual practices and worldviews, and in turn spark more feelings of compassion, connection and presence as we face the future? |
