As we take on the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity, our best solutions will reach beyond the symptoms of production and consumption, and will connect to a much deeper cause: the values and the worldviews that support our lifestyles and our economic models.

What new memes and messages can transform our DNA of waste and consumption? Can media help resolve the disconnect between our aspirations and our actions? Can we find a way to re-frame the meaning of a “good life” so that it is not the “good lie” that so much of media promotes these days?

At Media that Matters 2010, we'll tap our group wisdom to get us thinking about new ways we can shift our lifestyles and seed collective change.

Join us in a stunning wilderness setting for a potent blend of open dialogue, trend-spotting and transformative ideas. Media that Matters is four days of thought-provoking interactive sessions and group-directed collaborations -- all in a context that will help you return to your professions and projects refreshed, revitalized and ready for the future.
This year's theme:
RETHINKING THE GOOD LIFE
What if we reinvented how we consumed and produced things in a way that enriches all aspects of our lives—our ecologies, economies, and social life? What would this future reality look like? What would it take to make this happen? These are critical questions we must answer.

One Earth‘s Vanessa Timmer and Nicole-Anne Boyer will be attending Media that Matters this year to spark a provocative conference thread on how we can engage media to co-create and communicate this new story.

The One Earth Initiative is a nonprofit research and advocacy group in Vancouver Canada, which includes global footprint pioneer Bill Rees. This Spring, they will be launching a five-year future visioning initiative called Rethinking the Good Life. Their goal is to accelerate a new dialogue and discourse that leads to new alternatives, awareness and action around sustainable production and consumption in North America.

Key outputs will include: future maps, scenarios and simulations; an actor map of who is doing what, where and why; new cognitive frames and language for enhancing public discourse; and cross-sector “change labs” focused on innovating high-impact new models, mindsets and metrics. This initative will also be linked to the ongoing UN Marrakech Process and other key international and national policy processes.

The conference fee for Media that Matters is $345 Cdn.

Once again Hollyhock will be offering a 15% discount on lodging and meals through Mid-April. Lodging options are posted on the Hollyhock site.

There's a great group of participants already lined up for this year's conference, with more coming on board soon.
